Sales

I never really realized how much I liked to shop until I fell into my current condition and it struck me, quite harshly, that I won't be able to buy any new clothes for about a year. This is an especially hard realization to make over the winter holiday season when everything is on sale. I'm also reluctant to invest in any shoes because I'm told that some women change shoe sizes during the course of their pregnancy. Looking at handbags just isn't enough. Sigh.

Surprise doesn't begin to cover it

Since we haven't made this blog public yet, and likely won't for another two weeks, I have been considering changing its name. I think a more apt title is "OMG. . .I'm pregnant." It just captures the feeling a little better. Then again, perhaps I'll let Jamie Lynn Spears register that domain, she probably needs it more than me. . .

Back on track

I haven't written in a while but it was important for me to clear the air (and my good name) and let you all know that fortunately my fast food days are over.

After the McDonald's/Carl's Jr. cravings subsided, I moved onto hot dogs. It started with an intense craving at Costco, a store I usually detest but managed to find redeeming qualities in once I got a whiff of the Hebrew Nationals they were selling outside.

I then spent two nights in a row at Nate & Al's delicatessen in Beverly Hills downing more kosher beef dogs (luckily, they are the cheapest thing on the menu in the notoriously over-priced place). I also tried a low-fat home version cooking 99% fat free dogs wrapped in low-fat crescent rolls before that craving subsided and and I moved on to pizza.

The pizza phase (with a short detour into pasta) didn't last long and I am proud to report I have moved on to more sophisticated foods. This thing inside of me will now tolerate vegetables again (yeah!) and will even let me keep fish and more gourmet foods down. I am pretty much eating the foods I like now giving in to the McNugget's only vice -- chocolate milk -- every now and then.

It looks like we'll need a new name for the McNugget. Suggestions are welcome.

Supermarket Sweep

I'm so happy to be contributing to this blog!!!

As I mull over all the wonderful life changes I'm expecting, I'm caught up in the fact that I cannot deny a pregnant woman her cravings AND I'm the household marketer. Have you guessed what this means for me? Yup, many and varied trip to the supermarkets (yes, I shop at more than one).

Jamie's cravings have been strange but somewhat consistent. I was expecting pickles (I'm told that happened tonight but I am traveling in Seattle and Jamie was, thankfully, inside a Jewish deli at the time of the craving) but I have received requests for Chinese food, pizza, pigs in blankets, pudding, chocolate milk, granola, challah, chicken soup...I'm probably missing some.

Regardless, I'm delighted to help satisfy Jamie's cravings...even if it means driving a bit out of my way for mundane groceries (come on, pigs in blankets?).
